daycamps

Camp registration begins on January 28, 2013.  To register for camps at the Earth Discovery Center please call 327-7148, and for camps at the Ornithology Center please call 327-2473.  All camps are student-only camps, parents are welcome to enjoy the park and facility.  Siblings are not allowed unless they are registered and of the same age group.  Camps fill up fast so register early!  SCROLL DOWN ON THIS PAGE for more information about camps at the Earth Discovery Center and Ornithology Center.  (For information on other Indy Parks Daycamps, please visit indy.gov/parks or call 317-327-PARK for more information.

All campers except those attending 3-5 year-old camps need to bring a sack lunch with them each day.  All campers should bring a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and extra old clothes every day.  Gate fee for Eagle Creek Park is waived for registered campers - you will receive a gate pass in the mail.

 

2013 Daycamp Information 

If you are already registered for one of the daycamps, registration forms will be sent to you in the mail before camp begins, along with a camp schedule, gate passes for entry into Eagle Creek Park, and any special instructions for your camp.  The forms should be filled out and mailed to:

Ornithology Center Camps

Are you ready to take your bird watching to the next level?  This weeklong class will allow you to study birds up close and in depth.  Birding skills will be developed through hikes and outdoor observation, hands-on activities, handouts, and study of the Ornithology Center's exhibits.  Topics include:  bird ID, birding by ear, attracting birds to your backyard habitat, binocular and field guide use, bird biology, migration, conservation, raptors, Indiana owls and owl pellets, drawing birds, notebook/journal entry, how to help birds through local projects and bird counts, and much more.  For more information or to register for the Ornithology Center Camps, please call the Eagle Creek Ornithology Center at 317-327-2473.

Happy Hikers
May 28-31, 2013
Awaken and build upon your child’s  natural curiosity for nature in this camp. Whether it is feeling soft leaves, smelling bark, or looking for birds in the trees, campers will use their senses as we happily hike!

Puddle Jumpers
June 17-21, 2013
In this camp we will be visiting wetlands to find a fascinating world  inhabited by an array of unusual creatures.  We will meet these creatures in their habitats and learn about their lives through some fun games and crafts too!

Animal Explorers
July 22-26
It's a WILD time at the Earth Discovery Center!  Each day we will have a different group of animals to explore, and different hands-on ways of exploring them.  This camp has it all, from scat to scales!

Trail Travelers
May 28-31, 2013
It’s time to hit the trail for some adventure!  Eagle Creek Park offers some of the best hiking in Indianapolis!  In this camp we will be exploring the park’s trails, everything from the cabin to the cove!  Make sure students wear good walking shoes.

Stream Stompers     
June 17-21, 2013
Join us as we explore the streams around us!  We will be taking a close look at the plants and animals that call the waterways home.  This camp is loaded with activities, hiking, crafts, and so much more!  Come prepared to get wet and have fun!

Young Naturalist
July 22-26, 2013
It's time to hit the trail for some adventure!  Earn your Jr. Naturalist certificate in this camp as we explore Eagle Creek's forests, wetlands, and prairies and learn about the ecology of Indiana.  In this camp we will be exploring the park's nooks and crannies, everything from the cabin to the cove!  Make sure students wear good walking shoes.

Eagle Creek Explorations 
June 3-7, 2013
Join us as we explore all of the best places in Eagle Creek Park.  We will be learning about  different animals and plants each day.  Come dressed for the weather; we will be spending most of our time outside!

Down and Dirty Camp
June 24-28, 2013
Discover an exciting world hidden under a fallen log, wade through the waters in the creek, look under the rocks, and explore some of the dirtiest places in Eagle Creek Park, all in the name of natural science!  This camp promises some very dirty days, so don't forget your extra clothes and shoes!

Strive to Survive I
July 8-12, 2013
This is a hands-on, fun-filled week of camp.  Learn various survival techniques and wilderness tips to help you on your next outdoor adventure!  We will be using compasses, putting up tents, finding wild edibles, and so much more!

Eco-Excursion
June 10-14, 2013
This camp will be a week of excursions from a compass course to knot tying.  Participants will conduct field studies in a variety of different wildlife habitats.  Make sure to send students in old clothes and shoes they can hike in!

Fish Camp 101 
July 1-5, 2013
How do I tie a good fishing knot? How do I prepare a fish after I've caught it? What kind of fish can I catch in Indiana? All these questions and more will be answered, and each day will involve learning new skills and testing them out on the water. All equipment is provided and all levels of experience are welcome! There will be no camp on Thursday the 4th.

Strive to Survive II 
July 15-19, 2013
This camp will be just like the Strive to Survive I camp for the 7-9 year-olds only more in depth,  with longer hikes.  And of course, we will be sending them home a bit more messy!  This is one outdoor adventure you don’t want to miss!
