Come join us at the Earth Discovery Center on most Sundays at 1:30pm for the "Feeding Time". It is not only a fun time to watch the various creatures snap, chomp, swallow their food, it is also an educational time, for kids of all ages. Feeding Time may occasionally be cancelled or rescheduled due to special events or staff scheduling - call 327-7148 if you want to be certain we'll be feeding the animals on a particular Sunday.
Here are some pictures and video clips from the Sunday afternoon feeding time.
Snapping Turtle:
This one is just a baby, but it can still bite. Someday, it might weigh as much as 40 pounds. There are snapping turtles in Eagle Creek Reservoir, but don't worry, they don't bite in the water, but on land - SNAP! SNAP!!

Mudpuppies breathe through feathery gills, so clean water is just as important to these guys as clean air is important for us to breathe. They love to slurp down earthworms.

Garter Snake:

Though normally bullfrogs eat only live animals, this one has learned to eat dead mice.

American Toad:

Eastern Box Turtles:
There's nothing like a fresh salad with lettuce, tomatoes, fruits, and a few earthworms on top. These turtles prefer to eat the protein before they reach for the fiber.

Black Rat Snake:
This snake is checking out its food, but it isn't always hungry. This slow moving snake doesn't use up a lot of energy, so one mouse can be enough for a week or more. Today, it seems to be just curious, not hungry...

And this isn't all ... Stop by on a sunday afternoon, and join us as we feed these and other creatures, and please come feed us some questions.
